Our health and wellness initiative is predominantly a community health education program that seeks to educate citizens in our communities to be aware of health-related matters. Our focus is the prevention and control of diseases, counseling, testing, and screening programs, all designed to reduce the incidence and prevalence of chronic diseases.
Most of our interventions are carried out in remote communities that lack access to efficient and affordable primary health care systems. Our intervention is a proactive strategy as the dearth of accurate appropriate health education and awareness in our communities is alarming.
As a nation, the challenges in the health sector are enormous. Currently, Nigeria has the second highest of stunted children in the world, an estimated 2 million children in Nigeria suffer from severe acute malnutrition (SAM).
Our programs are meant to reduce the causes, effects of diseases and promote diseases prevention and treatment programs that limit the spread of communicable diseases and reduce the incidences and effects of non-communicable diseases. Some of our projects also strengthen the health care system by providing medical equipment to health care facilities in remote communities.
Health indicators in Nigeria are some of the worst in Africa. SOF works to prevent and reduce preventable deaths from diseases by supporting and promoting community health education fairs and clinics.
SOF’s programs complement the efforts of government at all levels as well as other non-governmental organizations.
SOF’s health and wellness interventions are community health Education Outreach and Health Equipment Support.
SOF Community Health Education Outreach
Our major intervention is community health education, where people are taught about behaviours that promote health and wellness. It is a platform where a variety of public health issues such as disease prevention, environmental health, nutrition, safety, and disaster preparedness, and more are brought to light.
Our community health education is a practical program where participants are not bored with academic theory instead are presented with strategies that are proven to work with real-life examples. Participants receive useful and practical information within a very short period.
Attendees at our health education outreach leave with expert suggestions and guidance on the health topics being presented. Relevant information is provided and the outreach is interactive, fun, and highly productive
Our presenters are experts in their fields and participants get reliable, easy-to-understand information, as well as practical advice based on the latest information. The outreach includes no-cost testing and screening services. While all our outreach is open to the public, our target remains the low-income and uninsured demography of our communities.
Health education boosts a community’s economy by reducing healthcare spending and lost productivity due to preventable illness.
